Presently over there are over 1.8 billion English speaking people around the world. This figure is growing at a rapid rate. However, in the past, only five to seven million people spoke the language in the British Isles. Today, from our education system to our entertainment sector everything is primarily in the English language. So how did this growth happen? Is English the best language? No certainly not. Any native language is the most suitable language for the native land.
The rise of the British Empire:
The British Empire was one of the largest empire ever. They had conquered over 50 percent of the entire world. Their process of colonization included the exchange of natural resources. Many traders were involved in the process of import/export of tea leaves, pepper, ornaments etc. Other countries like the Dutch and the French also joined this rampant trade to help their economies. But the traders had to learn the English language to deal with the British authorities. This led to the wide spread of the language to other empires.
