Toy industry: under the threat of technology

Introduction:

There’s no need to acknowledge you to fact that almost everything has been replaced latest technology and gadgets. We are so dependent on the gadgets that we can’t even think about a single day without using them. From our morning routine to our daily work, everything is associated with the use gadgets. Today, even the kids are well aware of the latest tech. As a matter of fact, sometimes they know more than some fully grown adults. However, their habits have also changed with the introduction of new gadgets.

Then and now:

The smartphone market has greatly affected the toy industry. As today the majority of the kids are addicted to some kind of gadget for their entertainment. But in the earlier days, they were only engaged to toys. More options have created a chaos in the toy industries. Now no kid wants to spend his time in solving a complex jigsaw puzzle. In fact, kids are now really keen to beat some villains in the latest action games. In the past kids used to play for hours with their interactive toys. But now this has shifted to video games instead. This is a worrying matter as they are enjoying the virtual rather than the real world. Most of the kids have become lazy and stuck to the coaches that they take no interest in the outdoor games.

Gone are the days when kids used to invite their friends for a game of Monopoly, Ludo, Chess. Now instead of real interaction, they are using the internet as a medium to socialize. Now parties got a new form, the online parties, where everyone stays at their home in their shorts. Toys are meant for the development of brain and motor skills. Whereas video games are helpful only for our brain. We don’t learn anything physical by playing video games. While a set of Mechano can teach us the basics of handiness. The toys help a kid to understand the working of a specific thing. Take a radio control car, for instance, the kid will easily learn about the parts of the car by playing.

The downfall in the toy market came in the early 2000s. It was then when the personal computer became incredibly affordable to the masses. Now people could have some decent entertainment on their PC with less expenditure than toys. This made the game developers further steps to make the situation even worse. They have managed to port the board games like Monopoly, Chess etc. into a virtual form which further crippled the toy industry. This made kids and people lazier. No one wants to take out a board game out the old cupboard, thus they end up playing the virtual version of the game. To put further classification into this problem you have to ask yourself when was the last time you played a real board game? Popular toy manufacturers like FunsKool, Hasbro are facing massive loses.

Some firms like Lego has managed to promote their products through movie franchise and video games themselves. So you see, in order to retain their existence toys manufacturers are also using the modern video games. No one wants to take out a board game out the old cupboard, thus they end up playing the virtual version of the game. Conclusion:

Today, kids want something more interactive and intuitive. As they are not the old kids who were more interested in playing with action figures of various superheroes. Today, the kids want to control than for real. However, in the support of technology, we can say that it has educated them better on a mental level. As kids, today have greater knowledge than that of their previous generation. Technology is really helpful in educating the kids but it devoid us from the practical life. The kid may have a very good knowledge but he won’t know how to use a screw driver to unscrew screws. Toys help us to relate to the functions of daily life.
